It is a 35 hour drive and me and my buddy are taking out 5-6 days. I need some places to visit and some kool things that are going on on our way, we are leaving in a couple weeks.

You didn’t say how you’re planning to go, although but I’ll assume the “direct” route of I-90 to I-74 to I-65.

A little over half that drive / that route (~1200 miles) is through Montana and South Dakota, which while scenic, isn’t incredibly action packed. It’s also in the winter, which will rule out a lot of the outdoorsy things (white water rafting, fishing, hiking) that some of those areas are known for.

Rapid City, SD (Mt Rushmore)
Wall, SD (home of Wall Drug – kitschy tourist trap place that makes a good road trip stop, you’ll see the signs for hundreds of miles)

Peoria, IL
Champaign, IL
Indianapolis, IN

I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few places; it’s a nice drive.
